10 things to do before you’re 10 (Part 2)

Travel

In Part 2 of our special ’10 under 10’ series (click here for part one), we offer more advice to those of you who are living the good life with their children.  Opening their minds to possibilities is one of the greatest gifts you can give, and in some cases you can tack on a great experience or vacation onto it yourself.

Without further ado…

Legoland Denmark – Denmark

Remember how much you loved Lego’s as a kid? You’re only young once, so what is more appropriate than to show a child the origins or their favorite toy and show them the infinite possibilities of these plastic building blocks?  Head to Billund, Denmark – just a short flight from Copenhagen – for the original Legoland, where over 100,000 square meters of space is dedicated to large scale Lego structures, towns, scenery, vehicles and much more. Enjoy numerous human scale rides, enjoy a meal, get your child an official Legoland driver’s license, and keep one empty suitcase with you to bring back all those unique Lego sets that you will find. www.legolandholidays.dk

Singapore Zoo – Singapore

A lot of people don’t like zoos, and we understand that sentiment. Oftentimes, animals don’t look like they’re having too much fun in their cages. But in Singapore’s signature zoo, where a painstakingly cultivated 28-hectare rainforest environment houses over 316 species (many of which are threatened) of animals, children can witness tigers, birds, monkeys, elephants and much more behaving like they would in their original habitat. It’s awe-inspiring, educational and a great option for adults who have been clamoring for a memorable excursion to Asia. Kill two birds with one stone, if you will – although that seems like an inappropriate turn of phrase to be used here. www.zoo.com.sg

Swim With Dolphins at Sea Life Park – Oahu

If you’re like us, and think dolphins are nearly magical creatures, then this next destination is for you.  The renowned Sea Life Park not only enjoys an incredible location in beautiful Oahu, Hawaii (which is worth its own trip), but also will foster your child’s appreciation of marine life.  Along with frolicking with dolphins, kids of all ages can interact with penguins, sea turtles and sea lions in a breathtaking tropical setting that is truly unforgettable. This is one that should not be missed. www.sealifeparkhawaii.com

Hollywood Studio Tours

What is more fantastical than the movie business? The whole industry is based on make-believe, and the many tours provided by Hollywood studios are a great way to pull back the curtain and show the inner workings of how movies and television shows (pre-reality TV) are made. See classic movie sets that are still being re-used today, catch a glimpse of your favorite stars on their way to work and be inspired all over again to ask ‘how did they do that?’ Each studio has its own unique style of tour, so make sure to read up on each one beforehand.
