Polish supermodel Anja Rubik walked the red carpet at amfAR’s Cinema Against AIDS gala in Cannes in a dazzling pair of jewelled high heels.
A collaboration between Giuseppe Zanotti and Chopard, the pink satin heels boasted 22 carats of diamonds, 199 carats of pink sapphires and 134 carats of rubellites – all strung on rose gold chains.
The 25-year-old, who is the face of Giuseppe Zanotti, wore the shoes with a pale blue ostrich feather dress from Emilio Pucci.
As she arrived at the gala event, she said: “I’m wearing them, and my bodyguard is my shadow.”
The shoes, along with a matching pair of earrings, were auctioned off for £125,000 to a private bidder.
But Miss Rubik revealed afterwards: “I was hoping for more. I’m very ambitious.”
The cost rivals that of the world’s most expensive shoes, which designer Christopher Michale Shellis put on sale for £140,000 last year.
Chopard Co-President Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele called them “the most precious shoes ever.”
She said of the collaboration: “Chopard is a long-time supporter of AmfAR, and in particular of its gala in Cannes.
“This year, we wished to support the charity through an idea that took shape when I met Giuseppe Zanotti. His talent has inspired a project combining our respective crafts.”
Other items at the auction, which raised £6 million for charity, included a tennis match with Monaco’s Prince Albert and prints from Karl Lagerfeld’s fashion photography collection.
Guests at the event were strictly A-list celebrities, including Kanye West, Jane Fonda, Uma Thurman and Gwen Stefani.
