After months of negotiations, it’s confirmed – Britney Spears has signed a deal to join Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid as a judge on the US version of The X Factor.
E! News confirmed Britney will get USD15 million for one season on the show.
“The contract is signed,” a source stated. “There’s been a lot of back and forth over the past few weeks as they negotiated the small details, but she’s on. It’s all completed and Britney is beyond excited.”
Cowell fired judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger and host Steve Jones at the end of the show’s first season. Since then, the reality show’s creator has been on the hunt for a panel of judges that will help to boost ratings in season 2.
“She’s ready for this,” the source added. “She can’t wait to sit down next to Simon at the judges’ table and give this everything she’s got. She is excited about showing the world that she can do this, and do this well. This is the perfect next stage in her career. Both Britney and Simon are very excited to work together.”
Britney’s stint on the programme will be her first network TV project since her short-lived Britney & Kevin: Chaotic reality series with ex-husband Kevin Federline.
The deal means Cowell is left with finding a final, fourth judge, and a new host. Reports of possible candidates for the judge’s job include Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato. An announcement regarding the decision is expected by the time TV network Fox announces its autumn schedule on Monday.
