The Terrafugia Transition, a light aircraft that can convert into a road-legal automobile, is to go into production after being given the green light by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The Terrafugia Transition was designed as a “light sport” aircraft, the smallest kind of private aeroplane under FAA classification, with a maximum weight of 1,320lb (599kg). But the manufacturers found it impossible to fit the safety features – such as airbags, crumple zones and roll cage – that are required for road vehicles into that weight.

Aston Martin has revealed its new and improved DB9.
Dubbed as “the most significant programme of upgrades since its world debut in 2003,” the new DB9 has been given a new front bumper, bright finish radiator grille and a re-shaped lower intake. New headlight bezels, re-styled sills, silver brake calipers, 20-spoke alloy wheels and clear rear light lenses complete the external revisions to the luxury car.

This year, Sir Elton John’s annual charity ball has been brightened up by a unique auction item – an Audi A1 art car produced by superstar artist, Damien Hirst.
The special supermini, which is fully driveable and road legal, was created using Hirst’s renowned spin painting technique at his studio in Gloucestershire, UK. The A1 will be auctioned off with a 6ft diameter canvas that the British artist completed at the same time.

The world’s most expensive model car – a tiny Bugatti Veyron replica – has been constructed from 24-carat gold, platinum and diamonds, with a price tag of £2 million.
The whopping price is enough to purchase two of the real cars, which are owned by celebrities including ex-American Idol judge Simon Cowell.

Citroën has unveiled the all-new C4 family hatchback prior to its public debut at this September’s Paris Motor Show.
Citroën’s new C4 compact hatch will take on the likes of the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf with a hi-tech cabin and much-improved fuel economy and CO2 emissions when it hits UK dealers early next year.

Three years after it burst onto the supercar scene, Audi has unveiled the R8 GT, the most hardcore version of its four-wheel-drive supercar yet.
Lighter, harder and faster than the standard R8 V10, the GT will be ready to take on the likes of the Porsche 911 GT3 and Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera when it is released in the UK early next year.
