Samsung, the world’s number 1 technology firm in terms of revenue, reported a record net profit of $4.5 billion for the quarter as customers around the world flocked to buy Galaxy S3 smartphones.

South Korean electronics giant Samsung Electronics Co said Friday its net profit surged to 5.2 trillion won ($4.5 billion) in the April-June quarter, representing a 48 per cent increase over the previous year.

The first ready-made personal computer, an Apple 1, has sold for $374,500 at a Sotheby’s auction.

The computer, which came only as a naked motherboard, is reportedly one of only six working examples of Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak’s first Apple hardware, according to The Telegraph.

A rare 1923 Leica camera became the world’s most expensive camera when it sold for €2.16 million at an auction in Vienna last Saturday.

An anonymous bidder won the German camera, which miraculously still works after almost 90 years, the Daily Mail reported.

It is not the least bit impossible, that some years from now, when watching a television show where they flicked a light switch, used a land line based phone or made a note in a paper calendar, people will laugh and say “Hah, remember grandma telling us how they did that as kids?”

Do you find it hard to believe me? Well, remember the touchscreens in Star Trek? Or how people in sci-fi productions were talking to robots made out of tin? Well, if you think about it, it’s not that long ago since this seemed something of the distant future. Read more »

You’d probably pay a premium for a flash drive if it had extra storage space, but would you pay US$37,000 for a mushroom-shaped flash drive covered in sapphires, rubies, emeralds and diamonds?

Swiss jewellery maker La Maison Shawish recently launched its luxury Magic Mushroom USB flash drives. And although they can only store 32GB of data, these little gadgets could cost up to $37,000 depending on the colour, Tecca reported.
