Lady Gaga cleaned up at this year’s BRIT Awards held in London on Tuesday night, scooping three awards.

The 23-year-old singer took home awards for International Album, International Breakthrough Act and International Female Solo Artist.

Accepting her first award of the night, Gaga said: “Thank you so much, I love my fans, thank you so much for everything.”

By the time she accepted her third award, for Best International Album, she was in tears.

“I was really excited about winning the first two awards, but this one means more because I worked so hard on this album for so long, and when I think about all that I went through and all the years of struggling and my fans – they were the first ones to recognise my abilities,” she said.

Gaga also performed a song at the event which she dedicated to her friend – recently deceased fashion designer Alexander McQueen.

Meanwhile, Liam Gallagher stunned fans at the event, throwing both his microphone award trophy in the crowd and snubbing his brother during his award acceptance speech.

The former Oasis singer collected the award for BRITS Album of 30 Years, a publicly voted accolade for the best album since the event started.

Liam appeared onstage briefly to collect the award trophy, and thanked the band’s line up – apart from his brother Noel, the band’s main songwriter and second vocalist.

Liam said: “I’d like to thank Bonehead, Guigsy, Alan White…. the best bands in the f**king world live forever.”

He then threw his microphone and the award trophy into the audience and walked offstage.

Oasis split last year after a fallout between the troubled Gallagher brothers. Noel is now recording a new solo album, while Liam has formed a new band with the rest of the group’s members.

Backstage at the event, Liam said: “I don’t know if we deserved it because there has been loads of great albums over the last 30 years.

“But if they’re gonna give it to us then I’ll play the game and turn up and get it.

“Now can we go and take loads of Class A drugs?”

The missing microphone caused panic among the award organisers, prompting one of the stage team to plea for its safe return during an advert break.

“We need this mic back. Please, if you have the mic will you return it, as one of our artists will not be able to perform without it,” he announced to the audience.

The microphone thrown by Liam was eventually handed back and the show went on.

British boyband JLS were the surprise winners of two awards, taking home awards for British Single for their debut hit Beat Again and British Breakthrough Act, while ‘Bonkers’ rapper Dizzee Rascal was named the British Male Solo Artist.

Florence and the Machine picked up the accolade for British Album, while Lily Allen was named British Female Solo Artist.

Accepting her award in a bright ginger wig, she said: “I wore an orange wig so it would make it harder for the cameramen to find me and see the look of disappointment on my face. But that backfired.”

After the singer was urged to hurry her acceptance speech, she replied: “No f**k off, I’m not leaving, f**k off,” before thanking her family.

Pants On The Ground, the song performed by Atlanta resident Larry Platt during his American Idol audition, has shot to fame to become a YouTube sensation. But the song’s YouTube power is just the beginning.

The hysteria over 62-year-old “General” Platt’s song has spread into endless parodies, and may even rival the likes of William Hung’s infamous off-key audition performance of Ricky Martin’s hit She Bangs.

When asked what inspired the song that is now sweeping the US, Platt replied: “I was walking one day, and [I saw] a guy with a baby bottle in his mouth, and he had his pants on the ground. And that’s what gave me the inspiration.”

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre was filmed chanting the lyrics to the song with teammates after leading his team to a victory over the Dallas Cowboys on January 17. Singer Brandon Gray also paid homage to Platt with his own acoustic spin on the tune.

“I think this song all touched us greatly. While this isn’t even close to the amazingness of the original Pants on the Ground, it’s my little attempt at covering this classic song,” he said.

Jimmy Fallon parodied the performance on his late night show, crooning it while pulling off a Neil Young impersonation.

Platt is a veteran of the 1960s civil rights movement, and reportedly took part in the infamous 1965 “Bloody Sunday” march in Alabama from Selma to Birmingham, with the late Dr Martin Luther King Jr. He rocketed to fame last week when American Idol aired his audition during the show’s season nine premiere.
