Being a multi-Grammy Award-winning musician and singer-songwriter, collaborating with some of the biggest names in music, and topping countless best-guitarists-of-all-time lists will get you friends in high places.
Just ask Eric Clapton, who, after setting his sights on the Ferrari 458 Italia, managed to get the Italian carmaker to agree to build a special 6.0-litre V12 model of the sports car – up from the usual 4.5-litre V8 engine – just for him.
Clapton is famous for his passion for Ferraris, but apparently he was never particularly a fan of eight cylinders.
In a previous interview, Clapton said: “I love the sound of Ferraris and I, as a musician, can confirm that these engines deliver proper music. I have to say that my weak point is the 12-cylinders’ music.”
The upgrade will bring his new baby to 620hp, up from 560 in the standard 458 V8. It’s tough to say how far Clapton’s special edition vehicle will go as far as performance figures are concerned, but the standard 599 GTB does zero to 60mph in 3.7 seconds and has a claimed top speed of over 205mph.
Whatever the figures will be, we’re sure Clapton’s new V12 Ferrari 458 Italia will be music to his ears!
