Colin and Chris Weir give away house

Europe’s biggest-ever lottery jackpot winners give neighbour their house

Europe’s biggest-ever lottery jackpot winners Colin and Chris Weir have given their old house to a teen mum who lives next door to the couple.

The winners of the record £161 million EuroMillions jackpot prize will be giving Chelsea McGhie, 19, and her seven-month-old daughter the keys to their £220,000 detached house in Largs, Ayrshire in Scotland, according to the Daily Record.

Chelsea lives next door to the Weirs with her parents Craig and Val, and brother Jordan. She was reportedly stunned when she was told the news of the couple’s generous offer.

“It’s amazing,” she said. “I’m a very lucky girl. Everyone is talking about it but it’s all going over my head.

“I’m very happy but I’m not going to give any information out. I don’t want to say anything more because it’s private.”

Chelsea’s mum Val said: “They’re lovely people. Everything written about them is true but we’re not going to say anything. That’s the way we’ve been since the start.”

Since winning the massive EuroMillions jackpot in July, Colin, 64, and Chris, 55, have only occasionally returned to their family home.

They now live less than three miles away at the £850,000 Knock House complete with cinema, pool and stables sprawled across 23 acres of land.

A source said: “They are such nice, genuine people and it seemed like the obvious solution for Chelsea as she and her baby are living with her parents. Chelsea can’t believe her luck – it’s as if she has won the lottery too. To be handed a £220,000 house would be incredible for anyone, let alone a teenager just starting out.

“She’s a great mum who dotes on the wee girl. To live beside her parents will be really handy.

“The McGhie family have been great neighbours to the Weirs over the years and they want to use their money to spread some happiness among their friends and family.

“When you’re one of the richest couples in the country, the time and effort to sell the house is also probably not worth the hassle.”

The Weirs’ windfall ranked them in at 430th place on the Sunday Times UK Rich List.
