Gwyneth Paltrow signs $900,000 record deal

US actress Gwyneth Paltrow, who plays a country singer in the country drama film Country Strong, has just signed a deal with Atlantic Records to record her debut album.

The deal is worth $900,000 and will see her debut album released later this year.

Paltrow, 38, is married to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin and began taking guitar lessons while their children Apple, six, and Moses, four, were at school.

She has hinted at a duet with Jay-Z, a friend of her husband who already records for Atlantic, saying it would be a “good combination”.

The actress recently made a guest appearance on an episode of the hit musical TV series Glee as McKinley High substitute teacher Holly Holliday, singing a censored cover version of F*** (Forget) You by Cee Lo Green.

She will be reprising her role on the show in another episode due to air next week, with planned covers of Prince’s Kiss, Joan Jett’s Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah) and Fleetwood Mac’s Landslide.

Paltrow also recently performed at the Country Music Awards and at the Grammys – where she performed Forget You with Cee Lo Green – and at the Oscars, where she performed the Academy Award-nominated song Coming Home.

She may be better known as an actress, but Paltrow made her singing debut in the 2000 film Duets.
