Jaguar has announced plans to build a limited run of its C-X75 supercar in conjunction with the Williams F1 team.
The Jaguar C-X75 concept car, launched at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, will go into production in 2013 and will cost in excess of £700,000.
While the concept car used jet turbines to produce its power, the on-road production version will have a small but highly turbocharged petrol engine and two electric motors – one for the front wheels, and one for the rear. Jaguar claims it will be able to drive in electric-only mode for approximately 30 miles (48 kilometres).
It will boast sub-three second zero to 60mph (97kph) acceleration and a top speed of 200mph (322kph), but should emit less than 100g/km of CO2.
Carbon fibre will feature heavily in its construction to keep it lightweight and Williams F1 – famous for its Formula 1 team – will collaborate with Jaguar in the C-X75’s production, which will take place in the UK in 2013.
The C-X75 is Jaguar’s first supercar since the XJ220 went out of production in 1994. It will sit at the top of the current range, comprising of the XF executive saloon, XK coupe and convertible and XJ luxury saloon.
Only 250 C-X75s will be built, and Jaguar is already taking reservations. Prices are expected to be between £700,000 and £900,000, depending on the local market and taxes in the country of purchase.
