Lamborghini unveiled its all-new lightweight, topless Gallardo LP570-4 Spyder Performante at this year’s Los Angeles Motor Show.
Taking the top-spec Gallardo Superleggera as its base, the Italian carmaker’s engineers have created the ultimate in “wind-in-the-hair” experiences.
Through Lamborghini’s efforts to reduce the weight of its cars, the new Performante weighs just 1,485kg – 65kg less than the standard Gallardo Spyder. This has been achieved by using carbon fibre to reinforce the aluminium bodyshell, carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) for some body parts and using Alcantara rather than leather for the interior trim.
Lamborghini has also increased the power of the 5.2-litre V10 from 552bhp to 562bhp. This means that the benchmark 0-62mph (100kph) sprint takes just 3.9 seconds, with a top speed of 201mph (323kph). The Perfomante is four-wheel drive and comes with the e-gear automated manual gearbox as standard, although a manual is available as a no-cost option.
The Performante gets a number of styling enhancements to set it apart from the rest of the range. After lengthy sessions in the windtunnel, its engineers have added a reprofiled front bumper for extra cooling and downfore, a fully enclosed underbody and a new rear diffuser. There are also new lightweight 19-inch wheels and the option of a large rear wing.
Customers get the choice of five paint colours, exotically titled Giallo Midas, Arancio Borealis, Grigio Telesto, Nero Noctis and Bianco Monocerus – or yellow, orange, grey, black or white in plain English.
There’s no word yet on its price, but you can expect the Performante to cost upwards of £190,000.View Comments
