A British lottery ticket-holder came forward on Saturday to claim a massive £101 million EuroMillions prize – the third-largest lottery jackpot in UK history.
The identity of the winner remains a mystery, and it is not yet known whether an individual, couple, or syndicate scooped the jackpot.
A National Lottery spokesperson said of the win: “This is amazing news – we are absolutely delighted for the winner.
“We’ve got the champagne on ice and look forward to welcoming the ticket-holder into the National Lottery millionaires’ club.”
The mystery winner reportedly contacted representatives of lottery organiser Camelot by telephone after Friday night’s draw to report they had the seven winning numbers, which were 18, 26, 34, 38 and 42 and Lucky Star numbers 5 and 8.
The largest-ever EuroMillions prize was a staggering £161 million jackpot won by Colin and Chris Weir from Scotland in July.
The second-largest prize was won by an individual ticket-holder, who chose to remain anonymous after scooping £113 million in October last year.
Nine countries participate in the EuroMillions lottery – the UK, the Republic of Ireland, Spain, Portugal, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland and Austria, with ticket sales from all those countries going towards the jackpot prize.
