New record set for world’s most expensive burger

Where else but in the capital of over-the-topness would you expect to find a $5,000 burger?

Celebrated chef Hubert Keller has created the world’s most expensive burger for his Fleur de Lys restaurant at the Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

But what do you get for a $5,000 burger? (That’s excluding tax and tip, mind you.)

The FleurBurger 5000 is made with Kobe beef, topped with a slab of foie gras, truffle sauce and black truffle shavings, all served on a brioche truffle bun.

The burger patty is never frozen or grilled prior to your order.

Oh, and you also get a bottle of Chateau Petrus 1995 from Bordeaux — which retails at around $5,300 a bottle — thrown in with your FleurBurger 5000. The red wine comes served in Inchendorf Brunello stemware imported from Italy that will be mailed to your home with a certificate.

And if you’re dining with a companion, he or she will receive a free burger (although we’re guessing the freebie won’t be of the $5000-kind).

The previous record for world’s most expensive burger was held by a £95 burger from a Burger King outlet in West London, known quite simply as “The Burger”.

so if the wine retails at $5300 and the entire meal is only $5000 then technically isn’t the burger free? it’s like they are paying you $300 to eat it, must be a typo somewhere or it just wouldn’t make sense.

basically you are buying the Chateau Petrus with a burger for $5000. The theory behind this is more people with money would buy the burger than Chateau Petrus in Vegas! It’s a marketing technique!
