Former Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher has reportedly turned down an offer of over £1 million to become a judge on The X Factor.
The offer was made by the show’s producer and ex-judge, Simon Cowell.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Noel was offered a head-spinning amount of cash. He could name his price.
“Simon promised global fame and a crack at the US panel in future years. He was setting it up to make the show his own and fill his boots.”
The source added Noel turned down the deal because he would have had to put his solo music career on hold and he feels a “duty” to provide an alternative to brother and ex-bandmate Liam Gallagher’s new band, Beady Eye.
“Noel said he wanted to focus on his solo career and feels he has a duty to stop Beady Eye stinking up the bottom of the charts,” the source said.
Early auditions for the new series of the British version of The X Factor have already started, despite the judging panel yet to be finalised.
Out of last year’s British X Factor judges, Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole are expected to depart in order to work on the US version of the show, while Louis Walsh and Dannii Minogue have yet to be given new contracts.
Louis said he still expects to return to the programme however, and also tipped Take That musician Gary Barlow and pop singer Lily Allen to join him and Dannii on the judging panel.
He said: “I’ve heard people say Gary Barlow and Lily Allen could be in the running. They’d make good judges and I’d like to see Dannii back.”
