Casino magnate Steve Wynn has come forward as the previously anonymous casino owner who donated a total of $2 million – $500 to 4000 needy families – to a Nevada-based charity over recent months.
Steve Wynn’s donation is the largest donation the United Way of Southern Nevada has ever received, according to the Associated Press.
The anonymous donor was known only as “Secret Santa”, until Wynn revealed to a local newspaper columnist recently that he was the donor.
Prominent businesspeople claim charitable donations are a regular occurrence in Las Vegas, where casino operators often serve as both employers and philanthropists.
Many of the struggling families who received the $500 donations reportedly earn $16,000 or less annually.
Nevada has the US’ highest unemployment rate.
