Samsung, the world’s number 1 technology firm in terms of revenue, reported a record net profit of $4.5 billion for the quarter as customers around the world flocked to buy Galaxy S3 smartphones.

South Korean electronics giant Samsung Electronics Co said Friday its net profit surged to 5.2 trillion won ($4.5 billion) in the April-June quarter, representing a 48 per cent increase over the previous year.

The first ready-made personal computer, an Apple 1, has sold for $374,500 at a Sotheby’s auction.

The computer, which came only as a naked motherboard, is reportedly one of only six working examples of Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak’s first Apple hardware, according to The Telegraph.

Surprised or not by Apple’s amazing and magical announcement this month, the incremental advancements of the all-new iPad (no number designation, so a bit confusing for the folks who own the iPad2) have gone and done something unexpected.

While there is no Siri assistant (just a voice dictation app), no USB slots (for add ons) and no places to put a memory card (a very basic requisite), for the first time the features of this device are as close to what we wanted to see in the second – if not the original – iPad. And the qualities are so that we think certain technologies may soon be ready to be retired and thrown away.

Thanks to high taxation, it’s not just the filthy rich who specially order gold-plated and diamond-encrusted Apple iPads who pay the highest price for any Apple (AAPL) product than every other consumer on earth, it’s also Brazilians, Forbes has revealed.

According to Idealo Internet GmbH, a price comparison site based in Germany, Brazil has the highest-priced Apple products in the world.

Apple’s latest magical device – the iPhone 4S – arrived with a healthy dose of fanfare, but just a few weeks later there has been a growing number of complaints regarding the shorter battery life.

In the tech blogging world, an incident like this is often the kiss of death for some gadget manufacturers, but thus far Apple doesn’t seem to be getting skewered like Sony, Nokia, or Samsung usually do.
