The world’s largest auctioneer, Christie’s, has announced record first-half art sales of £2.2 billion, an increase of 13 per cent over the same period of 2011.
Christie’s posted sales of £1.8 billion in the first six months of 2012, up seven per cent compared to a year ago, while private art sales increased by a staggering 53 per cent to £413 million, according to Reuters.

A rare pink diamond has been sold for $17.4 million at auction, after just six minutes of bidding, in Hong Kong.
Auction house Christie’s stated the diamond – the biggest of its kind ever to be sold – was bought by an anonymous telephone bidder, according to the BBC.

The historical Beau Sancy diamond was bought by an anonymous bidder for $9.7 million at a Sotheby’s auction in Geneva on Tuesday.
The Beau Sancy is a 34.98 carat diamond which was passed among the royal families in France, England, Prussia and the Netherlands. It was sold by the Royal House of Prussia, the line of descendants that once ruled Prussia, according to Associated Press.

The largest round fancy intense pink diamond ever sold at auction is due to be auctioned next month, with an expected selling price of up to USD10 million.
