UK National Lottery operator Camelot has paid out record amounts of money to prize winners and good causes, with its draws and scratchcards becoming increasingly popular.
Camelot, which runs games including Lotto and National Lottery scratchcards, said winnings hit £1.7 billion in the six months leading up to September 24, up £300 million on the previous year, The Press Association reported.

In an unusual attempt to find the winner of a lottery jackpot worth over £600,000, operators of the UK National Lottery have taken out a job advert in the newspaper.
The advert, taken out by Camelot, reads: “Lottery Jackpot Winner Wanted. No previous experience necessary. One-Off Salary: £612,749.

A group of hospital workers were delighted to discover they had won £1.3 million on the UK National Lottery, but NHS bosses banned them from cracking open a bottle of bubbly to celebrate their win.
The 30-strong syndicate matched all six numbers in a UK National Lottery draw on April 30, winning £1,339,367.

A woman who dumped self-confessed ‘Mr Boring’ trucker Matthew Breach for being dull, only to see him later scoop a £17.8 million Lotto fortune, has been branded the unluckiest woman in Britain.
Kerry Graves, 31, and Breach, 37, were childhood sweethearts. They were a couple for 14 years, until Graves walked out on him, telling pals she wanted “lots of sex”.

The winner of a €16,717,717 lottery draw on Wednesday will need time to get over the “ginormity” of their windfall, according to the shopkeeper who sold the winning ticket.
The winner of the second-largest jackpot since the Lotto began in the UK in 1988 has not yet made contact with the National Lottery to claim the prize, but has been in contact with Pat Whyte – owner of the store in Dungarvan, Ireland, from where the ticket was purchased – on the basis of strict anonymity.
