Taylor Swift received the top honour at the 46th Academy of Country Music Awards held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Sunday night, winning the entertainer of the year award.
The 21-year-old songstress beat the likes of Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, and even the night’s overall winner, Miranda Lambert, to take home the coveted award.
“I’ve never won this before and I am losing my mind,” Swift said as she accepted the award, which is voted for by fans.
“The fact that this is from the fans makes it so special,” she added.
Miranda Lambert and country trio Lady Antebellum won the most awards on the night.
Lambert took home the awards for favourite female vocalist, record of the year, video of the year and song of the year for her southern ballad The House that Built Me.
Just like at this year’s Grammys, Lady Antebellum also dominated at the Country Music Awards, winning awards for album of the year and top vocal group for their Grammy Award-winning hit ballad Need You Now.
Singer Brad Paisley was named top male vocalist for the fifth year running.
“This is way too many for me,” he said, before joking: “I don’t know who got paid what.”
The show was hosted by Reba McEntire and Blake Shelton and performers included Aerosmith frontman and American Idol judge Steven Tyler, who duetted with country singer Carrie Underwood on her hit Undo It as well as on his band’s classic Walk This Way, and Rihanna, who performed her song California King Bed with Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles.
The award presenters included Chace Crawford, Celine Dion, and Water for Elephants costars Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon.
