Ferran Adrià, owner of the restaurant famed as being the best in the world, El Bulli, has decided to close the restaurant at the end of the year.
Adrià said he would be taking a hiatus from El Bulli as of 2012 to explore new gastronomy trends and to do some teaching in the United States, before re-opening for the 2014 season.
He will open a centre for advanced culinary experimentation, something he and his staff have done for years during the off-season, accepting students with years of training and experience in restaurant kitchens around the world.
El Bulli is open for only six months out of every 12, and for only one sitting at dinner. Two million people have applied for the 8,000 places available for each season over the past few years.
