British designer Stuart Hughes is well-known for his extravagant (and pricey) designs – he’s the man behind the world’s most expensive mobile phone, the world’s most expensive men’s suit, and the world’s most expensive television, to name but a few of his creations.
But now, Hughes has turned his talents to the bedding department, creating the world’s most expensive bed.
Priced at a whopping £4 million, the Baldacchino Supreme bed features 107kg of solid 24ct gold, with the option to customise the headboard with diamonds.
It is hand-crafted from chestnut, ash and cherry wood and draped with Italian silk curtains.
Only two of the beds will be made – each taking three months to hand craft once it is purchased – and one has reportedly already been sold to an Italian businessman.
“I’ve never worked on anything like it,” Hughes said.
“It’s the sort of thing only the super rich can afford – billionaires who have everything. The bed is stunning.”
Hughes created the Baldacchino Supreme in a joint collaboration with Hebanon by Fratelli Basile Interiors of Nocera Superiore Italy, a team of master Italian furniture makers.
As for the one remaining bed, it’s still up for sale.
Hughes says these types of luxury items can take “one minute or an eternity to sell.”
