A 72-year-old Nepalese man has become the world’s shortest man as well as the shortest person ever recorded.

Guinness World Records official Craig Glenday and a doctor measured Chandra Bahadur Dangi to confirm his height of 54.6 cm (21.5 inches), The Telegraph reported.

Mr Glenday presented Dangi with two certificates for being the world’s shortest living man as well as the world’s shortest person recorded in Guinness’ entire 57-year history.

After receiving the certificates, Dangi said that he was very happy and hoped to travel across Nepal and the rest of the world.

Dangi lives in the remote village of Rhimkholi, located about 250 miles west of Katmandu, with his youngest brother and his family. His five brothers are all average height.

Doctors found Dangi has no immediate health problems. His family does not know when he stopped growing.

Dangi has taken the crown from the previous world’s shortest man record holder Junrey Balawing of the Philippines, who is 60 cm (23.5 inches) tall.
